Planet of the Apes shrine*

What is the most deliciously nostalgic film scene of the 60s? Hands up for Planet of the Apes, when Charlton Heston finds the Statue of Liberty on the beach.

We can all sympathise with Charlton’s bittersweet emotions as he punches the sand with his fist. He treasures fond memories of a happy former life, but his dreams of returning home have taken a sharp turn for the worse.

The evil apes have somehow travelled to Earth, stolen the Statue of Liberty and then callously dumped it on their own God-forsaken planet.
